Odoo Apps

Choosing the Right Odoo Apps for Your Industry

More apps isn't the goal

Odoo's app marketplace is large enough that it's tempting to treat "which apps should we install" as a shopping list. It isn't. The businesses that get the most value tend to run five or six apps well, not fifteen apps half-configured. The question isn't which apps exist — it's which workflows in your business actually need to move off spreadsheets or disconnected tools first.

Start from the industry, not the app list

A retailer's core stack usually looks different from a manufacturer's, which looks different from a field-service business's:

  • Retail: Point of Sale and Inventory first, eCommerce once the in-store side is stable
  • Manufacturing: Manufacturing and Inventory first, Quality and Maintenance once production is running reliably
  • Field-heavy businesses (logistics, waste collection, trades): Field Service and Fleet first, Inventory once material tracking becomes the bottleneck
  • Nonprofits: Accounting with analytic tracking first, Events and Spreadsheet (BI) once reporting to funders becomes the pain point

Accounting is the one app that ends up in almost every stack eventually, but it doesn't have to be first — get the operational side reflecting reality before asking the numbers to reconcile against it.

Add apps when a workflow demands it, not on a schedule

The failure mode isn't under-adopting Odoo, it's over-adopting it in the first month. Add the next app when a real workflow is straining without it — when spreadsheet-based stock counts start causing stockouts, or when quotes are getting lost in someone's inbox instead of a CRM pipeline. That's a far more reliable trigger than "we should probably turn on Marketing at some point."
